Fine, Visual, and Performing Arts
Welcome to the Fine, Visual and Performing Arts Home Page. New Brunswick is home to a vibrant arts community where every child has access to a high-quality arts program. We offer over 147 residencies district-wide from some of the top arts organizations including George Street Playhouse, American Repertory Ballet, State Theater New Jersey, Co-lab and the Metropolitan Opera.
We are a VH1 grantee district with over 1000 students currently playing a musical instrument. Instruction begins in fourth grade and is open to any interested student. We have a thriving jazz band and have partnered with Hub City Jazz Festival to ensure that our students participate in authentic music-making experiences with renowned musicians. Thanks to Hub City Jazz Festival, our Jazz band is preparing for an October concert with National Performing Artist, Tito Puente Jr. This year, we have committed to bringing back the marching band tradition and will hold our first band camp in almost 30 years in New Brunswick. In recent years our music students have performed with Kenny Rodgers, Lindsey Stirling, Bernard Perdie, Regina Carter and participated in the grand opening of Macy's in New York.
New Brunswick High School is host to the Fine, Visual and Performing Arts Institute where students can explore their creative passion through over 35 electives in Music, Art, Theater and Dance. When they graduate, their course work and experience provides them with the skills necessary to audition for college programs or work in their artistic field. The preparation for the institute begins in every New Brunswick K-5/8/6-8 school where students have access to courses in Concert Band, Orchestra, Choir, Visual Design, and Graphic Design. New Brunswick Middle School (grades 6-8) hosts an academy program where students can major in Concert Band, Orchestra, Choir, Visual Design, Graphic Design, Dance or Theater. We are excited that Paul Robeson Community School for the Arts will move into their renovated home on Commercial Ave. this fall. This school will feature a renewed commitment to the arts in every classroom with expanded arts-making opportunities for all students.
New Brunswick Public Schools is proud of our commitment to providing high-quality arts-making opportunities to all of our students.
